Detroit recently passed over 1,000 deaths related to COVID-19 complications. Death of COVID-19 Complications in Detroit has been a source of controversy due to the heightened proportion of African American deaths in Detroit. Major figures like Isaac Robinson and 5-year-old Skylar Herbert have made national headlines as a result of their deaths.

In a press conference today, Gov. Whitmer says that she does not intend to reverse her emergency declaration for the State of Michigan. A collection of Republican Lawmakers in Lansing have been working to remove her emergency powers as a result of what they see as overreaching measures with a detrimental effect on the economy.

The Governor has also outlined a plan for construction to be reopened in Michigan. The official date for reopening within the construction industry is May 7, 2020.

Under a proposed plan by the Governor of Michigan, Frontline workers, or essential workers, would get free college tuition if they don’t already have a degree. The plan is being called Futures for Frontliners.

According to a report authored by Al Jazeera, the United States Economy dropped 4.8 percent. This is one of the biggest drops since the height of the American Great Recession in 2009.

Michigan has reported a total of 34,399 cases of COVID-19. The state of Michigan also has seen 3,670 deaths related to COVID-19 complications. Wayne County reports 282 new cases of COVID-19. The total number of COVID-19 cases for Wayne County is 16,498.
