Dearborn, Mich. – The city’s mayoral race makes it almost clear who the favorite is, with Abdullah Hammoud receiving almost half the total votes – 42% – compared to his challenger for the general election Gary Woronchak at 18.45% of the votes.

These two will face off in the Nov. 2 election, along with the 14 City Council candidates who will campaign for seven chairs in the council. Those candidates are:

  • Michael T. Sareini – 10.16%
  • Leslie C. Herrick – 8.46%
  • Erin Byrnes – 8.19%
  • Ken Paris – 7.13%
  • Robert A. Abraham – 7.04%
  • Silvio Davis – 6.02%
  • Gary Enos – 5.74%
  • Khodr Farhat – 5.58%
  • Lola Elzein – 5.56%
  • Kamal Alsawafy – 5.55%
  • Mustapha Hammoud – 5.36%
  • Sam Luqman – 4.22%
  • Khalil Othman – 4.22%
  • Saeid Mashgari Alawathi – 4.02%

On the proposals, voters almost overwhelmingly decided to establish a charter commission that would revise the current city charter. In the Nov. 2 General Election, voters will elect nine candidates to work on the City Charter Commission. As of July 20, there are 13 candidates running for the Dearborn Charter Commission.

Voters also decided to continue a millage that would partially fund the city’s library system. The annual millage accounts for around 60% of the library system’s annual budget.
