We selected two recent student-athlete graduates out of Hamtramck High School and interviewed them to see what their next step will be in life.. Both student athletes received academic scholarships, athletic scholarships, or even both to their future schools.
Let’s meet the two rising stars of Hamtramck!

Rafi Ahmed
What was your high school GPA?
3.8
What sports did you play in high school?
I played baseball and soccer since middle school but had to quit soccer after my junior year due to work, school, and family issues.
What College are you attending?
University of Michigan-Dearborn
What degree do you plan on majoring in? Why?
My plan is to be an Engineer. I’m thinking of going into industrial and system engineering but not exactly confident yet. I want to expose myself to different careers within engineering before I actually pick a specific major.
What scholarships have you received?
I received the Merit Scholarship from U of M, the Opportunity Scholarship, and I received the Varsity Athlete Scholarship.
What are your favorite Hobbies?
My favorite hobbies would be playing sports. I recently started playing tennis on my free time. I also love to watch movies and hangout with my friends.
In 5 years, where do you see yourself career wise?
In 5 years I see myself graduated from college and having a full time job.
In 10 years, where do you see yourself career wise?
In 10 years I see myself buying my first house and investing in a small business or starting to save for my retirement.
Hannah Kelly
What was your high school GPA?
3.4
What sports did you play in high school?
I played soccer and volleyball. I played soccer from freshman to senior year and eventually was the captain of my team. I played volleyball my freshman year.
What College are you attending?
University of Detroit Mercy
What degree do you plan on majoring in?
Why?
I plan to study forensic psychology to further my knowledge as to how the criminal mind works.
What scholarships have you received?
I was awarded the Dean Scholarship at University of Detroit Mercy and also an athletic scholarship to play soccer there.
What are your favorite Hobbies?
My hobbies are playing sports and dancing.
In 5 years, where do you see yourself career wise?
In 5 years I see myself going back to school to get my next degree.
In 10 years, where do you see yourself career wise?
In 10 years I see myself evaluating criminals in whichever setting I’m placed in (courthouse, prison, etc.)
