The Hamtramck Public Schools (HPS) Board ended the school year on a high note by recognizing its students’ and teachers’ accomplishments at its June 11 meeting.
Retiring staff members were recognized for their years of service and both students and teachers were honored for their commitment to education. In addition, student winners of the Optimist Club’s speech contest were presented with their certificates.
“Your hard work, perseverance and excellence have set a shining example for all,” said HPS Board President Adbulmalik Algahaim. “Together we celebrate a spirit of learning and the extraordinary individuals who make our schools a place of growth and inspiration.”
Those who were recognized include:
- Early childhood: Sufian Saleh (2nd grade)
- Dickinson East: Rayan Ali (K–2), Cassidy Norton (3–6), Kaitlyn McBryar (1st grade teacher)
- Dickinson West: Hasinullah Momand (K–2), Aries Kennedy (3–6), Elizabeth Sliwinski (3rd grade teacher)
- Holbrook: Layth Alshuweyh (K–2), Sarah Alhalimi (3–5), Bushra Gobah (6–8), Kathleen Hill (reading specialist)
- Tau Beta: Rawan Yafai (K–2), Donia Alasad (3–6), Raed Alpara (7–8), Naomi Guertin (3rd grade teacher)
- Kosciuszko: Shahriar Chowdhury (7th grade), Muhsin Alhadi (8th grade) , Karen Swords (language arts teacher)
- Hamtramck High School: Habiba Chowdhury (12th grade), Amir Alqaryouti (11th grade), MD Miah (10th grade), Marwah Ahmed (9th grade), Jessica Madden (English teacher)
- Horizon High School: Farah Sweileh (12th grade), Aaron Guay (ELA/TV production teacher)
- MLD: Hanan Muhsin (MLD teacher)
