HAMTRAMCK, Mich. – The Hamtramck Board of Education convened an organizational meeting in order to elect the new Board President – Salah Hadwan – and the board’s vice president, treasurer and secretary.

Showkat Choudhury will be serving the Board of Education again as vice president, along with Moortadha Obeid as Treasurer again and Daz’Shavon Hall as Secretary again as well.

Showkat, Moortadha and Daz’Shavon will be continuing their time on the Board of Education in their previous positions. Former board president Jihan was nominated for the position of board president again but declined the nomination.

“First of all, I’d like to congratulate all of you,” said Nabil Nagi, interim superintendent for HPS. “You all work very, very hard. It takes a lot of time and commitment.”

Interim superintendent Nagi then handed the meetings over to board president Salah Hadwan for the remainder of the year.

“I want to say thank you to my colleagues and everybody for the support,” said Sal Hadwan, board of education president. “I also want to call attention to Jihan, who did great work last year.”
