Dearborn’s 2017 Teacher of the Year, Nagwa Ali

Every year, Dearborn Schools honors exceptional educators at their annual Alberta Muirhead Teacher of the Year Awards. This year, the event in its 20th anniversary awarded teachers from all levels of the P-12 system in Dearborn which included Maples Elementary teacher Mrs. Nagwa Ali. Teachers were nominated by students and peers to be awarded.

One of the nominators for Mrs. Ali said that she makes her very motivated to do well in class and “spends all of her time with us, even when we do not deserve it.” She said Mrs. Nagwa Ali started a “girl power” club after school to spend more time with them. The nominating student thanked her teacher for her devotion to the student’s success.

 

Mrs. Ali holds a master’s degree in Bilingual Bi-Culutral Education from Wayne State University and a Bachelor’s of Science in Elementary Education from the same university. She also attended Henry Ford College and the University of Toledo. Mrs. Ali is also a graduate of many programs such as the Dearborn Public School’s Aspiring Administrator Program, Galileo Teacher Leadership Academy, and Wayne State’s Educational Specialist Administrative Leadership Program. She has taught at Maples Elementary and earned many praises from her principals and parents alike. Before joining Dearborn, she was a teacher in Hamtramck teaching with the Global Educational Excellence Charter Schools.

 

The Yemeni American News congratulated Mrs. Ali on her recent accomplishments wishes her the very best. Mrs. Ali recently moved from Dearborn Public Schools to Melvindale Public Schools as she will take on an assistant principal position at Allendale Elementary School.
