Dearborn, Mich. – In its partnership with Meijer, ACCESS is offering COVID-19 vaccines for any eligible Michigan Residents. Supply of the vaccine is limited, but those who are eligible for the vaccine are encouraged to schedule their appointment as early as possible.

Anyone who would like to schedule an appointment should text “ACCESS” to 75049, according to a press release published by ACCESS. “If prompted to create a Meijer pharmacy profile during the registration, select the nearest Meijer location. When prompted to make an appointment, ACCESS will be included on the location list.”

ACCESS will be using the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine, which has been found to be safe and effective by the FDA. The vaccine works by taking a protein that is commonly found on the virus that causes COVID-19 and introducing it into the body. The body will respond by attacking the protein – which doesn’t come from the Coronavirus itself – and building an immunity to the virus.

The Pfizer vaccine does require two doses, so the second dose will need to be scheduled for Apr. 1.

Eligible adults include:

  • Anyone 65 years old and older
  • Anyone 50 years old and older WITH a disability or pre-existing condition
  • Healthcare workers
  • Long-term care residents and staff
  • Prioritized frontline responders
  • K-12 school teachers and staff
  • Childcare staff
  • Agriculture and Food Processing workers
  • Corrections staff
  • Caregivers of children with special healthcare needs

A Photo ID is required to be able to prove that a person is the one who scheduled for their appointment.

Vaccinations are free for anyone without health coverage, but those with health insurance will need to bring their insurance card in order to attend their appointment.

“It’s really about protecting yourself but also protecting people around you,” said Mona Makki, Director of the ACCESS Community Health and Research Center. “So for that reason, we are highly encouraging folks who meet the criteria to register and to get vaccinated as soon as possible.”

Makki also says that anyone who has trouble scheduling their appointment can also come to ACCESS’ office for help scheduling their appointment.

“We have people at the center, if someone want to walk in, or they don’t have a cell phone and need someone to help them register, we’re happy to do that. But we’re really encouraging people to text “ACCESS” to 75049 just to streamline the process.”
