Hamtramck Board of Education president highlights progress in 2025

Hamtramck Board of Education President Abdulmalik Algahaim has highlighted the progress the schools have made this school year in a message to the community.

“I want to sincerely thank my fellow board colleagues for their dedication and support throughout this successful school year,” Algahaim said in an end-of-the-year statement.

“Serving as your President has been an honor, and together we’ve accomplished meaningful improvements—from window and door replacements to kitchen and bathroom renovations, and the installation of HVAC systems in every building. These strides have strengthened our schools and created better environments for learning.”

Algahaim, who was elected in 2023 as a trustee before stepping into the president’s role early in 2025, also underscored the opportunities the schools have expanded for students, including vocational training at the high school level.

“Just as importantly, we’ve built trust with our community by meeting families where they are – launching the first-ever monthly coffee hour with the superintendent and board of education to connect directly in each neighborhood,” he said.

“To our community, I extend my heartfelt gratitude for your trust and partnership. Your confidence in our leadership allows us to continue making progress, and your support is vital as we focus on student academic growth.”

The board president added that he hoped to continue to earn the trust and support of the community. “With our shared commitment, I am confident we will achieve even greater success for our students and schools.”
