Wayne County Coronavirus Update – May 18.


In a press conference today, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer announced the opening of bars and restaurants in Northern Michigan starting Friday of this week. However, the opening still comes with restrictions as bars and restaurants will be required to operate at 50% capacity, along with all staff trained in safety protocol.

Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan spent a press conference outlining the declining numbers of new infections and deaths today, telling Detroiters that this is a promising sign of the city’s reopening soon.

According to State Health Department Data, the Presidential Primaries on Mar. 10 show that the Novel Coronavirus had been established in Michigan communities at that point. What this tells us is that the spread of the virus may have been made worse by presidential rallies held in parts of the state.

President Donald Trump will be visiting the Ford Manufacturing Plant in Ypsilanti this Thursday. According to an article published by the Detroit News, the President will be touring the plant and giving remarks.

Michigan has reported a total of 51,915 cases of COVID-19. The state of Michigan also has seen 4,915 deaths related to COVID-19 complications. Wayne County reports 68 new cases of COVID-19. The total number of COVID-19 cases for Wayne County is 19,274.
