Detroit Police Chief James Craig has tested positive for COVID-19. This news comes a day after the Metro Times reported that around 25 Detroit Police Department Officers tested positive for the illness.

The United States House of Representatives has approved a $2 trillion stimulus package that will deliver $1,200 to every American who makes less than $75,000 per year and will add $600 each week to unemployment benefits. $100 billion will go to hospitals and medicare reimbursement. $750 million will go to food distribution. And $500 billion will go to loans for businesses and municipalities. Mortgage payments and student loan payments will also be deferred as part of the bill.

Governor Gretchen Whitmer also announced that it’s very unlikely that students will be returning to classrooms during this school year.

Wayne County has reported 433 new cases since yesterday, bringing the total to 1,859 cases. There has been a total of 37 deaths associated with complications of COVID-19.

The total new cases for a few cities are as follows:

  • Dearborn: 14 new cases for a total of 40.
  • Dearborn Heights: 13 new cases for a total of 40.
  • Detroit: 224 new cases for a total of 1075.
  • Grosse Point Communities: two new cases for a total of 30.
  • Hamtramck: one new case for a total of nine.
  • Highland Park: one new cases for a total of 14.
  • Taylor: 11 new cases for a total of 61.
