Gov. Gretchen Whitmer said that she expects to extend the stay-at-home order. The extension is expected to be short-term. It’s unclear whether the stay-at-home order will include the same limitations as before.

Wayne State University released a statement saying that it may be cutting some programs, laying off staff and raising tuition in an effort to quell some budget worries. The budget may need to be cut by up to $60 million as the University prepares for the economic effect of the Coronavirus Pandemic.

The State of Michigan began layoffs today as the economic toll of Coronavirus puts a burden on the state’s budget.

In a press conference today, Whitmer began laying the groundwork for reopening the Michigan economy. While some form of stay-at-home order will be maintained, certain sectors of the state’s economy will begin to reopen soon, depending on the vulnerability of certain members of the population.

Michigan has reported a total of 33,966 cases of COVID-19. The state of Michigan also has seen 2,813 deaths related to COVID-19 complications. Wayne County reports 381 new cases of COVID-19. The total number of COVID-19 cases for Wayne County is 14,660.
