To be included on the 7th Annual Honor Roll, districts had to, since 2014, increase the number of students participating in AP while also increasing or maintaining the percentage of students earning AP Exam scores of 3 or higher.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_801\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-801\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-801\" src=\"http:\/\/yemeniamerican.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2017\/01\/Brian-Whiston-300x206.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"206\" srcset=\"https:\/\/yemeniamerican.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2017\/01\/Brian-Whiston-300x206.jpg 300w, https:\/\/yemeniamerican.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2017\/01\/Brian-Whiston-768x527.jpg 768w, https:\/\/yemeniamerican.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2017\/01\/Brian-Whiston.jpg 886w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-801\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>Brian Whiston<\/em><\/span><\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u201cReaching these goals shows that these districts are successfully identifying motivated, academically prepared students who are ready for AP,\u201d said State Superintendent Brian Whiston.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn our goal to make Michigan a Top 10 education state in 10 years, we need to promote greater access to AP opportunities for all students,\u201d State Superintendent Whiston said.\u00a0 He added that \u201cevery student should graduate from high school with up to 60 transferable college credits or a recognized industry credential\/certificate through access to quality dual enrollment, early middle colleges, and\/or career\/technical education. AP credits are one avenue to get there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Yemeni American News asked Mr. Thomas Niczay, Superintendent of Hamtramck Public Schools, on what this recognition means to him and to the Hamtramck Public Schools?<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_802\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-802\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-802\" src=\"http:\/\/yemeniamerican.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2017\/01\/Thomas-Niczay-300x201.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"201\" srcset=\"https:\/\/yemeniamerican.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2017\/01\/Thomas-Niczay-300x201.jpg 300w, https:\/\/yemeniamerican.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2017\/01\/Thomas-Niczay-768x515.jpg 768w, https:\/\/yemeniamerican.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2017\/01\/Thomas-Niczay.jpg 907w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-802\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>Thomas Niczay<\/em><\/span><\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u201cThe recognition by the Michigan Department of Education of being on the \u201cAdvanced Placement Honor Roll\u201d means that there are outstanding students attending Hamtramck High School who are achieving at \u201cHonor Roll\u201d status in the most rigorous classes offered.&#8221; Superintendent Niczay said.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>He adds that &#8220;it also means that their parents place a high value on education and have established a home environment that stresses the importance of education. A student\u2019s first teachers are their parents and these parents of our AP students did an outstanding job.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Superintendent Niczay added that the advanced placement class teachers are doing an outstanding job. He said that the AP teachers prepared students very well. He also thanked administrators and support staff for the outstanding job.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Hamtramck Board of Education is very proud of this recognition and extends congratulations to students, parents and staff. It truly is an honor to be recognized and everyone\u2019s effort set a great example for future AP students.
