The organization hosted a Spring Shoe Drive on April 28 at Dickinson West.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We\u2019re excited that they had the opportunity to come to our school and\u00a0 to be a blessing to our students,\u201d said Principal Leola Banks. \u201cOur students are excited, they love the new shoes. They\u2019re talking about riding bikes in their new shoes. You can see that the shoes really are needed.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dickinson West staff were also on hand and enjoyed seeing their students\u2019 enthusiasm.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cMy kids are very excited to receive new shoes,\u201d said second grade teacher Jazmin Gonzalez. \u201cThey\u2019re so happy that they were able to get a whole new pair for free.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-7293 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/yemeniamerican.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/04\/e35e0598-67f9-4324-be52-5ca68e5900fc-1024x576.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" srcset=\"https:\/\/yemeniamerican.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/04\/e35e0598-67f9-4324-be52-5ca68e5900fc-1024x576.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/yemeniamerican.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/04\/e35e0598-67f9-4324-be52-5ca68e5900fc-300x169.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/yemeniamerican.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/04\/e35e0598-67f9-4324-be52-5ca68e5900fc-768x432.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/yemeniamerican.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/04\/e35e0598-67f9-4324-be52-5ca68e5900fc-1536x864.jpeg 1536w, https:\/\/yemeniamerican.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/04\/e35e0598-67f9-4324-be52-5ca68e5900fc.jpeg 1600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The students were just as eager to talk about the event as the adults in attendance.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201dI feel so good in my new shoes because I love my new shoes,\u201d one student said. \u201cThey\u2019re so pretty.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Another student shared her excitement about having shoes in her size.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI feel so great about my shoes because they\u2019re the only ones that fit perfectly on me,\u201d she said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lace Up Detroit isn\u2019t stopping with Dickinson West. The organization has plans to meet the needs of even more Detroit-area students in the future.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe want to continue to reach out in Detroit and the surrounding area,\u201d Denomme said. \u201cWe\u2019re looking for more opportunities where there\u2019s a need.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<div class='clear '><\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"About 400 students at Dickinson West Elementary School in Hamtramck recently received a brand new pair of shoes each thanks to Lace Up Detroit.
