{"id":6768,"date":"2023-10-21T01:10:15","date_gmt":"2023-10-21T05:10:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/yemeniamerican.com\/en\/?p=6768"},"modified":"2023-10-21T01:10:15","modified_gmt":"2023-10-21T05:10:15","slug":"the-ongoing-genocide-in-palestine-leads-to-a-local-rally","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/yemeniamerican.com\/en\/the-ongoing-genocide-in-palestine-leads-to-a-local-rally\/","title":{"rendered":"The Ongoing Genocide in Palestine Leads to a Local Rally"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"direction: ltr;\"><strong>By: Omar Thabet<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On Saturday, October 14, the Palestinian Youth Movement and Students for Justice in Palestine organized an <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">All out for Palestine<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> rally in Dearborn, Michigan.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This rally was to raise awareness about the current bombardment of civilians in Gaza, Palestine. Israel immediately took credit for the blasts, then later retracted their statement after receiving online backlash for the attack.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to multiple news outlets, it was predicted that over 500 Palestinians died from the blasts at Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital, with hundreds more probably still stuck under the rubble.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Over 1.1 million Palestinians have been displaced from their homes since October 7. A lot of them have no water, food, a place to sleep or access to the internet and to the outside world.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Gaza Strip is considered the largest open-air prison on the globe.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">All of this information is what drove the Palestinian Youth Movement and Students for Justice in Palestine to hold a rally.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_6770\" style=\"width: 235px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6770\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-6770\" src=\"https:\/\/yemeniamerican.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/10\/Local-Jewish-residents-also-showed-their-support-for-Palestinian-people-during-the-rally.-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/yemeniamerican.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/10\/Local-Jewish-residents-also-showed-their-support-for-Palestinian-people-during-the-rally.-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/yemeniamerican.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/10\/Local-Jewish-residents-also-showed-their-support-for-Palestinian-people-during-the-rally.-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/yemeniamerican.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/10\/Local-Jewish-residents-also-showed-their-support-for-Palestinian-people-during-the-rally.-rotated.jpg 1084w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-6770\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Local Jewish residents also showed their support for Palestinian people during the rally.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr; text-align: center;\"><b>The Rally<\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Over a thousand people attended the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">All out for Palestine<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> rally this past Saturday.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The rally began at Ford Woods Park around 2 p.m. Rally goers then marched their way down Ford Road to Fordson High School. They eventually made their way back to the park at 5 p.m., which is around the time the rally ended.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We had the chance to interview some of the protesters who were at the rally. We had recommended that they not use their last names and\/or remain anonymous due to security reasons.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One of the organizers for the rally, Sherin, said the goal for this rally was to bring awareness to what\u2019s going on in Palestine.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe see Palestinian activists here in the United States being attacked by Zionists,\u201d Sherin said. \u201cThey call them terrorists, they try to shut them down, putting them on blacklist websites.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sherin then added, \u201cSo the goal here is to let everyone know don\u2019t be afraid of the small consequences. Our people are dying. They have no water and no food; they are being targeted by bombs and all of the borders are shut down. So, what we can continue to do here is spread awareness and let people know in the United States what is going on, so we can stop sending our tax money to the genocide.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There were plenty of passionate speakers at the rally who demanded justice for Israel\u2019s actions, leading chants that the rally goers followed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some of the chants were:<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">-\u201cFrom the river to the sea, Palestine will be free!\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">-\u201cNot another nickel, not another dime, no more money for Israel\u2019s crimes!\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">-\u201cFree Free Palestine. Free Free Palestine!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">All across the rally you\u2019d see protesters holding different kinds of signs in support of the Palestinian people. Protesters were also holding Palestinian flags, as well as other flags from other countries, including Lebanon, Iraq and Yemen flags.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When we spoke to a local Lebanese resident on why he attended the rally, he said, \u201cThere\u2019s a bunch of us Arabs here in Dearborn and we are all a family at the end. Rather you\u2019re from Yemen, Lebanon, Syria or Saudi Arabia; we are all a family. We should all be one hand together.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There were Jewish residents who attended the rally to support the Palestinian people as well.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When asked why they were in attendance, one Jewish resident said, \u201cJudaism is not equated with Zionism. To be an anti-Zionist Jew is to be a Jew that is in alignment with collective liberation for all people.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">She then added, \u201cAll of my grandparents were the only survivors from their family from the holocaust. I know the pain of that and how it has affected my family in terms of intergenerational trauma every day. It\u2019s not. It\u2019s very simple. It\u2019s a matter of having the basic human decency to be able to call out oppression when you see it and anything beyond that is just nonsense,\u201d Mohammad added.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI want to see my people go back to their homes before 1948,\u201d Sherin added. \u201cI want that genocide to be over. I need the blockade in Gaza to be lifted. I need the illegal apartheid along the west bank to be broken down.
