{"id":6411,"date":"2022-12-12T12:57:10","date_gmt":"2022-12-12T16:57:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/yemeniamerican.com\/en\/?p=6411"},"modified":"2022-12-14T15:38:49","modified_gmt":"2022-12-14T19:38:49","slug":"kosciuszko-boys-soccer-team-bring-home-the-league-trophy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/yemeniamerican.com\/en\/kosciuszko-boys-soccer-team-bring-home-the-league-trophy\/","title":{"rendered":"Kosciuszko Boys Soccer Team Bring Home the League Trophy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Last month the Kosciuszko Boys Soccer team beat Dearborn Heights Star International Academy in the United League Championship to bring home the trophy!<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>By: Omar Thabet<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Last month the Kosciuszko Cougars boys\u2019 soccer team went up against Dearborn Heights Star International Academy Falcons in the United League Championship final and came out victorious in a nail-biting game.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The game was tied at 3-3 heading into extra time. After no team could score in extras, it was time for the dreaded penalty shootout. Star International ended up scoring the first two goals while Kosciuszko missed their first shot.\u00a0 The situation was not looking good for Kosciuszko, until it came down to the last penalty shot.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>\u201cYou could hear a pin drop in the stadium with all the suspense in the air, \u201c<\/strong> said Head Coach Bo Sawka.<\/span><\/h3>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0Aymen Rajeh of the Cougars came up to shoot the penalty shot and he picked the left corner while Stars\u2019 goalie dived to the right. The ball went into the net and the game was over and Hamtramck won the championship!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The players started screaming and celebrating with excitement! The Kosciuszko Cougars brought home the United League Trophy!<\/span><\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>The United League<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The United League consists of schools from the Hamtramck, Dearborn, Dearborn Heights and Detroit areas.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The league is very competitive, as the game of soccer has become a staple for the kids in the metro Detroit area.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Head coach Bo Sawka said what makes him most proud about the team was, \u201cThe students and their ambition to win. Their dedication to both school and soccer.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Coach Sawka later added, \u201cI am proud of all of the kids and their dedication to their studies. As a team we focused on teaching them that they are students before athletes. That their education was more important than soccer.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Cougars finished the season with a 9-2 record.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The leading scorer on the season for the Cougars was Bassam Saleh with 8 goals.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Coach Sawka closed out the interview by thanking his assistant coach John Ondusky for all of the hard work he put into the season as well. Then Coach Sawka added, \u201cI was proud of the league and how everyone handled themselves.
