{"id":5780,"date":"2022-02-19T17:32:10","date_gmt":"2022-02-19T21:32:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/yemeniamerican.com\/en\/?p=5780"},"modified":"2022-02-20T16:53:17","modified_gmt":"2022-02-20T20:53:17","slug":"michigan-homeowners-assistance-fund-offering-help-for-those-behind-on-property-taxes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/yemeniamerican.com\/en\/michigan-homeowners-assistance-fund-offering-help-for-those-behind-on-property-taxes\/","title":{"rendered":"Michigan Homeowner\u2019s Assistance Fund offering help for those behind on Property Taxes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Yemeni American News<\/p>\n<p>Detroit, Mich. \u2013 The Wayne County Treasurer\u2019s Office has announced a program meant to help homeowners avoid foreclosure.<\/p>\n<p>For those who are behind on their property taxes from 2019-2021, homeowners may be eligible for payment help through the Michigan Homeowner Assistance Fund.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe fund was established to help residents tackle hardships associated with the pandemic by providing help to cover property tax delinquencies,\u201d reads a press release from the Wayne County Treasurer\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n<p>The application window began Feb. 14, and is available by calling 211, or visiting michigan.gov\/MIHAF.<\/p>\n<p>The Wayne Metropolitan Community Action Agency is also offering application assistance and can be reached at (313)-388-9799, or at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.waynemetro.org\">www.waynemetro.org<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile my office remains committed to doing everything it can to keep people in their homes \u2013 through payment arrangements, for example, we also have to comply with the law,\u201d said Wayne County Treasurer Eric Sabree. \u201cIt is very important that individuals who owe back property taxes for the year 2019 or prior either pay the bill in full or work with our office to make payment arrangements.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Michigan Homeowner Assistance Fund was launched this week by Governor Gretchen Whitmer. It provides $242 million in American rescue fund dollars to providing assistance to homeowners.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo qualify for MIHAF, applicants must have experienced a qualified financial hardship due to the coronavirus pandemic after January 21, 2020, or had a qualified hardship that began before January 21, 2020, and continued after that date.
