{"id":5620,"date":"2021-12-10T17:32:38","date_gmt":"2021-12-10T21:32:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/yemeniamerican.com\/en\/?p=5620"},"modified":"2021-12-12T17:29:49","modified_gmt":"2021-12-12T21:29:49","slug":"hamtramck-could-see-new-speed-humps-soon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/yemeniamerican.com\/en\/hamtramck-could-see-new-speed-humps-soon\/","title":{"rendered":"Hamtramck Could See New Speed Humps Soon"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Simon Albaugh \u2013 Yemeni American News<\/p>\n<p>HAMTRAMCK, Mich. \u2013 In next Tuesday\u2019s City Council meeting (Dec. 14), the Council will vote on whether 18 additional speed humps should be installed around public schools and Pulaski Park.<\/p>\n<p>Speed humps have been an important part of the discussion around <a href=\"https:\/\/yemeniamerican.com\/en\/hpd-more-than-600-speeding-tickets-issued-in-hamtramck-over-2-months\/\"><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">speeding in Hamtramck<\/span><\/a>. Although there\u2019s been criticism for speed humps in Dearborn, speeding around schools in Hamtramck does need an immediate solution. Hamtramck has also seen a number of hit and runs over the years, some <a href=\"https:\/\/www.detroitnews.com\/story\/news\/local\/wayne-county\/2017\/09\/17\/boy-struck-car-hamtramck\/105729416\/\"><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">involving children<\/span>.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Hamtramck City Council voted to initiate a pilot program of rubber speed humps that were installed near Tau Beta School and Hamtramck High School. The program was deemed mostly a success, with officers observing calmer traffic patterns around those schools.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe program has been deemed successful based on feedback from the school administration and the community,\u201d reads the introduction to the resolution. \u201cPolice officers observed traffic since the installation of the speed humps and agree that the pilot program has been mostly successful.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Instead of rubber speed humps, as seen in the pilot program, city officials hope to install permanent, asphalt speed humps around more public schools and Pulaski Park. Although no timeline is clear, the city expects to outline a complete timeline when the project would go out to bid.<\/p>\n<p>The total cost of the Speed humps is expected to be $86,125, according to most current costs.<\/p>\n<p>Hamtramck Public Schools will be sharing some of the cost, with Interim Superintendent Nabil Nagi working with the city.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe City Manager has worked with Hamtramck Public Schools Superintendent Nabil Nagi, who has indicated that the district will contribute financially to expand this program to areas around Hamtramck Public Schools and Pulaski Park which is also property owned by the school district.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Detroit has also been contributing to the process of development for Speed Humps in Hamtramck.
