His third term for this position will begin Jan. 1.<\/p>\n<p>As Chief Justice, Hunt will again be the presiding officer of the court, responsible for: caseload management, disposition of judicial workloads, supervision of all court personnel, finances and other important tasks. Having been chief judge throughout the length of the COVID-19 pandemic, Hunt already set the tone for how the court serves the public in this critical time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve adapted our operation to ensure continuing access to justice, notwithstanding the challenges posed by the pandemic,\u201d Hunt said. \u201cEveryone involved in our organization, judges, court staff, attorneys and police, made it possible to continue operating at a high level.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Aside from the duties of chief judge, Hunt also serves as the presiding judge for the Veteran\u2019s Treatment Court and the Drug\/Sobriety Court. Both are grant-funded programs dedicated to a holistic approach directing participants toward treatment and recovery.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is a desperate need for these types of programs in our community, and the court is uniquely positioned to help individuals with substance abuse challenges,\u201d Hunt said. \u201cIt is my goal to provide as many opportunities as possible for members of our community to get the help they need.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Judge Gene Hunt will be serving his third term as Chief Judge for the 19<sup>th<\/sup> District Court in Dearborn, MI. The 19<sup>th<\/sup> District Court is the second-largest district court in Wayne County and has a caseload that exceeds 75,000 cases annually.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am extremely proud of our team\u2019s accomplishments at the court, and I am honored by the opportunity to continue serving as Chief Judge,\u201d Hunt said. \u201cI\u2019m very fortunate to have such incredible partners on the bench. Judge Salamey and Judge Somers are true professionals who care deeply for our community.
