{"id":5464,"date":"2021-10-17T14:52:27","date_gmt":"2021-10-17T18:52:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/yemeniamerican.com\/en\/?p=5464"},"modified":"2021-10-18T17:24:40","modified_gmt":"2021-10-18T21:24:40","slug":"high-school-student-athlete-of-the-month-murad-mohamed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/yemeniamerican.com\/en\/high-school-student-athlete-of-the-month-murad-mohamed\/","title":{"rendered":"High School Student-Athlete of the Month: Murad Mohamed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"direction: ltr;\"><strong>By: Omar Thabet<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <em>The Yemeni American News have teamed up with OZ Media to bring to you a new segment called \u201c<u>OZ Media\/Yemeni American News High School Student-Athlete of the Month.\u201d<\/u><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\"><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 This award plans to recognize one high school student athlete who is excelling on and off the playing field.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 For the month of October, OZ media\/Yemeni American News High School Student Athlete of the Month Award winner is Edsel Ford\u2019s Soccer Star Murad Mohamed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Murad mostly plays winger for the Edsel Ford Thunderbirds Soccer team. From the time this interview was done, which was the second week of October, Murad had already scored 31 goals on the season. The 31 goals that Murad scored broke Edsel Fords single season goals scoring record, and there were still a couple weeks left in the season.<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 All of this success on the field has led to Murad being voted as MLive\u2019s Metro Detroit Player of the week not once, but twice so far this season.<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Murad isn\u2019t just excelling on the field either. Murad currently holds a 3.8 G.P.A.<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 When we asked Murad who inspired him to be great and to be the bright young man that he is, he didn\u2019t hesitate to give both of his parents credit.<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u201cMy mom and my dad have always been there for me,\u201d Murad said. \u201cThey\u2019ve always been supporting me throughout my life, which means a lot to me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Abubaker Mohamed, who is Murad\u2019s father, said, \u201cAs a parent I was tough on my son.\u00a0 But I am proud of where he is today.\u00a0 He pushed himself very hard and continues to push himself.\u00a0 He knows he still needs to work hard to achieve his dreams, but I believe in him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Murad\u2019s mother, Hella Mohamed, later added, \u201cI think it&#8217;s important to support your kids in what they love to do.\u00a0 Looking back at it now, I just wanted to keep him busy and focused on his schooling.\u00a0 Through his hard work and dedication, he has made it this far. I am a proud mother.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0Murad started playing soccer when he was very young with the Dearborn Soccer Club under his uncle Jamal Alhiyafi. Muard wasn\u2019t very interested in the sport when he first started.<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Over time, Murad started to play soccer with other kids and began to enjoy the game more.\u00a0 Murad then joined MYSA Youth Soccer Club under coach Mohamed Alrayyashi.\u00a0 He played with MYSA until he was in High School.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_5466\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5466\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-5466\" src=\"https:\/\/yemeniamerican.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/10\/2-300x289.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"289\" srcset=\"https:\/\/yemeniamerican.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/10\/2-300x289.jpg 300w, https:\/\/yemeniamerican.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/10\/2-768x741.jpg 768w, https:\/\/yemeniamerican.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/10\/2.jpg 828w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-5466\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>Murad Mohamed rocks the \u201cC\u201d on his sleeve because he is the captain of Edsel Ford\u2019s Soccer team. (Photo Credit: Denise Allen)<\/em><\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 When we asked Murad what kind of impact Coach Alrayyashi had on his life, he said, \u201cMohamed Alrayyashi is a mentor to me. He has helped me as a player, as a person, but most importantly he has helped me with my education. He always checks our grades and makes sure we are on track.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Mohamed Alrayyashi coached Murad from the age of 6 all the way to the age of 15. Coach Alrayyashi had this to say about Murad, \u201cMurad is a very humble young man. His work ethic has always been above and beyond some of his own teammates. He was not only trying hard in MYSA practices but he was always working hard outside of practice as well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">Coach Alrayyashi later added one of the greatest attributes about Murad was that \u201che never minded making mistakes because he knew he would correct and eventually fix them. MYSA organization and I believe that Murad will have a great future and we wish him nothing but the best.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 After playing for MYSA, Murad decided to take his talents to Edsel Ford High School. Murad made the varsity team as a freshman under coach Hussein Beydoun.\u00a0 Murad was then named captain during his sophomore year, and he has been a captain ever since. Muard helped Edsel Ford win the district championship back in 2020.<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Coach Beydoun had this to say about Murad, \u201cMurad is one of the hardest working kids I&#8217;ve ever coached. He keeps looking for ways to improve his game, and his hard work has paid off with the way he&#8217;s been playing this year.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">Coach Beydoun latter added, \u201cMurad doesn&#8217;t just score goals &#8211; he leads by example with the way he presses, defends, and the way he stays focused on doing well in school. Murad has played a big role in making Edsel Ford soccer stronger and more competitive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">Murad wanted to also thank all of his coaches in the past, including Hesham Alyafai and Abd Alkafe Khaoog, for helping him become the player that he is today.<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">Murad is currently a senior at Edsel Ford High School. When we asked him what kind of player\/athlete would future colleges be getting in Murad Mohamed, his response was, \u201cYou\u2019re going to get a hardworking student-athlete. I put 100% into everything I do and I never give up.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">Murad closed out the interview by giving the younger generation some advice. Murad said, \u201cDon\u2019t ever give up and keep working hard.
