{"id":5386,"date":"2021-09-07T10:37:12","date_gmt":"2021-09-07T14:37:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/yemeniamerican.com\/en\/?p=5386"},"modified":"2021-09-07T18:55:06","modified_gmt":"2021-09-07T22:55:06","slug":"fema-registration-for-june-flooding-closes-sept-13","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/yemeniamerican.com\/en\/fema-registration-for-june-flooding-closes-sept-13\/","title":{"rendered":"FEMA Registration for June Flooding Closes Sept. 13"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Simon Albaugh \u2013 Yemeni American News<\/p>\n<p>Wayne County, Mich. \u2013 The deadline to apply for disaster relief funds from the June 25 flooding event is about to close by Sept. 13 \u2013 next Monday \u2013 at midnight Eastern Time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFEMA assistance may include grants for temporary housing and emergency home repairs to make your home safe, accessible and secure,\u201d reads a press release from the Federal Emergency Management Agency. \u201cFEMA is unable to duplicate insurance payments. However, if you don\u2019t have homeowner\u2019s insurance or are underinsured, you may receive assistance after your insurance claims have been settled.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For those who\u2019ve already reported property damage to another organization, FEMA says that the damage must be reported to its organization in order to access federal funding through \u201cgrants and U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) long-term, low-interest disaster loans.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) designation on July 15, the Agency freed funding to be made available for those who have been impacted by severe flooding during the storms of late June.<\/p>\n<p>President Joseph Biden allowed the funding to be made available after Gov. Gretchen Whitmer announced a state of emergency for Wayne and Washtenaw counties.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe president\u2019s action makes federal funding available to affected individuals in the counties of Washtenaw and Wayne,\u201d reads a July 15 press release. \u201cAssistance can include grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property loss and other programs to help individuals and business owners recover from the effects of the disaster.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Recovery Centers have also opened to aid those in finding the right program to assist in recovery of property damage. Wayne County has three disaster recovery centers: in Detroit on Fort Street, in Dearborn and in Garden City.<\/p>\n<p>After the June 25 flooding that damaged basements and flooded freeways, leaving cars waterlogged and stranded, <span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><a style=\"color: #3366ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/yemeniamerican.com\/en\/hamtramck-state-officials-ask-for-help-in-flood-disaster-designation\/\">local activists and elected officials<\/a><\/span> began the process of collecting statistics on property damage. Rep. Abraham Aiyash (D \u2013 4<sup>th<\/sup> Dist.) helped with the effort along with other elected officials.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo Speed up and streamline the process, we went ahead and made a form to collect data,\u201d Aiyash said in a Facebook post. \u201cWe will send it to each respective city administration as soon as we collect them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Soon after, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer announced the State of Emergency for Southeast Michigan, a necessary step for garnering FEMA funding for disaster relief.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe state emergency operations center has been activated to coordinate our state\u2019s response as we rush resources to affected areas, and the state of emergency response declaration will help counties access even greater assistance,\u201d Whitmer said.<\/p>\n<p>After Sept. 13, residents affected by the June 25 flooding disaster will be unable to apply for federal disaster assistance.
