{"id":5036,"date":"2021-05-06T08:51:13","date_gmt":"2021-05-06T12:51:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/yemeniamerican.com\/en\/?p=5036"},"modified":"2021-05-06T17:19:31","modified_gmt":"2021-05-06T21:19:31","slug":"whitmer-appoints-dearborn-college-president-for-rehabilitation-council","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/yemeniamerican.com\/en\/whitmer-appoints-dearborn-college-president-for-rehabilitation-council\/","title":{"rendered":"Whitmer Appoints Dearborn College President for Rehabilitation Council"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">By Simon Albaugh \u2013 Yemeni American News<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">Dearborn, Mich. \u2013 Governor Gretchen Whitmer has appointed Russell Kavalhuna, president of Henry Ford Community College in Dearborn, to serve on the Michigan Council for Rehabilitation Services.<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">MCRS serves to provide vocational services to people with disabilities throughout the state of Michigan. It works to do this through a partnership with businesses, offering solutions that meet the needs of individuals and industries, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.michigan.gov\/leo\/0,5863,7-336-94422_97702---,00.html\">state of Michigan\u2019s website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">\u201cI am honored to serve on this Council to improve opportunities for Michigan workers and create an inclusive, engaged workforce across our state,\u201d said Kavalhuna.<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">Russell Kavalhuna has served as Henry Ford College\u2019s President for the past three years, starting as the sixth president of HFCC in 2018. His goal is to provide community college as a pathway to the Middle Class.<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">\u201cAs the son of an immigrant who attended a Michigan community college, he believes the community college model of education and service is the gateway to the American Dream,\u201d reads a statement <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hfcc.edu\/president\/bio\">on the HFCC website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">His role on the MCRS will be to work alongside 16 other members of the board. The board will review, analyze and advise the state\u2019s rehabilitation programs and services \u2013 specifically the services provided by the Bureau of Services for Blind Persons and Michigan Rehabilitation Services.<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">\u201cMichigan Rehabilitation Services provides access to the workforce for individuals with disabilities and provides businesses with qualified, dedicated workers who will help grow our state\u2019s economy,\u201d said Kavalhuna. \u201cPreparing Michigan citizens for meaningful careers is a hallmark of the work we do at Henry Ford College. I look forward to joining the MCRS.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">Kavalhuna\u2019s term will last from Apr. 30, to Dec. 31, 2021. His appointment was due to a vacancy on the council.<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">The Michigan Council for Rehabilitation Services oversees many of the state\u2019s efforts to provide employment and education opportunities for people with disabilities.
