Berwick who is a pediatrician. He also helps lead the existing Medicare system and worked for Obamacare. He starts his piece by describing how corrupt our modern healthcare system is flawed. He later goes and describes how disappointing it is to see some candidates are taking the position of the right-wing by attacking Medicare for All when the truth is that Medicare for all will “sharply reduce overall spending on healthcare” (Berwick). He then goes on and explains how our modern system is dysfunctional and causes harm to the American people. The author also explains how the Affordable Care Act is a good step forward toward a single-payer health system. He later goes on and mentions how Senator Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts describes other plans that try to claim that they are better then Medicare for All will actually only help people that have the money to pay for it, and not help the most vulnerable people of society. This article is found to be very credible and unbiased because it is written by a doctor who has seen the struggle of American families with healthcare companies. I believe that this article is a great intro for people who know nothing about Medicare for All is to educate themselves about this proposal because the author has outlined what benefits Medicare for All brings to the American people.

On the other hand, my next article which is titled “10 Reasons Medicare-For-All Is A Bad Idea Besides Financial Bankruptcy” is written by Hadley Heath Manning who is the director of policy at Independent Women’s Forum. She begins her piece by explaining how vice president Joe Biden is concerned about the overall price of Medicare for All. She later goes on and says that people like Joe Biden and the Republicans need to focus on the other big issues that Medicare for All will end up causing. The author then lists 10 reasons that she believes Medicare for All is a bad proposal. Her first point explains how Medicare for All will ruin healthcare quality (Manning). However, Medicare for All is the most popular proposal that will help solve our healthcare system. Next, she says that Medicare for All will “swamp emergency rooms” (Manning). Realistically speaking under Medicare for All more people will actually have a fulltime doctor and will only go to an emergency when they are not able to go see their doctor or in a severe emergency. Last, she says that Medicare for All will say goodbye to Private Health Insurance (Manning). The truth is the private health insurance is the problem that our country has suffered with in the past decades and that’s why Medicare for All is trying to solve it. This article, unfortunately, is not credible and very biased. The author should not be trusted when it comes to this issue because she is a director of policy at an Independent Women’s Forum and does not have any background in healthcare.

Medicare for All is a huge conversation, especially that we are approaching the 2020 election. People need to know both sides of the spectrum in order for them to have a strong opinion about this policy. Many of the candidates in this election season are giving their opinions about this policy and we should be able to come up with our conclusions. As long as people respect each other’s opinions the American people will be able to work with the government to build a healthcare system that benefits the American people.

Works Cited

Berwick, Donald M. “Stop fearmongering about ‘Medicare for All.’ Most families would pay less for better care.” USA Today, 22 Oct. 2019, https://www.usatoday.com/story/opinion/2019/10/22/medicare-all-simplicity-savings-better-health-care-column/4055597002/. Accessed 24 Oct. 2019.

Manning, Hadley Heath. “10 Reasons Medicare-For-All Is A Bad Idea Besides Financial Bankruptcy.” The Federalists, 27 Sep. 2019, https://thefederalist.com/2019/09/27/10-reasons-medicare-for-all-is-a-bad-idea-besides-financial-bankruptcy/.
