Community educator and software entrepreneur Adel Mozip and his campaign team held a campaign kickoff event at the Arab American National Museum on Thursday August 30th. Adel was surrounded by many of his friends and family as he made his pitch for the Dearborn Board of Education.<\/p>\n

\nAdel Mozip, a software developer, a former instructor, and a community activist is seeking one of the two open seats on the Dearborn Board of Education. Ragih Murshed was the MC of the event and introduced Councilwoman Leslie Herrick who touted Mozip\u2019s involvement with the youth and his passion for higher education.<\/p>\n

\u201cAdel brings a special kind of energy and has done so much for our youth at a young age. He has been a mentor with the program he has established and worked on policy on the state level which is very valuable\u201d says Councilman Herrick.<\/p>\n

Wayne County Commissioner Gary Woronchak also spoke at the event and praised Adel for his involvement in the city through civic organizations and the schools.<\/p>\n

\u201cAdel has been a student going through the bilingual program,and now as a parent; advocating for students throughout many of his roles. We have to remember that November 6th.\u201d says Commissioner Woronchak<\/p>\n

Adel\u2019s Campaign Manager, Nagwa Ali, a public school administrator and a lifelong educator spoke at the event thanking attendees for their support of Adel\u2019s campaign for quality education in Dearborn.<\/p>\n

Ms. Ali then introduced Candidate Adel Mozip who thanked his supporters for their trust in him to run once again.<\/p>\n

Adel said \u201cMy persistence and resilience comes from strong beliefs in quality k-12 & higher education that will advance households to achieve the American dream. The board that governs our schools and Henry Ford College needs a member that is highly qualified and has an independent voice when making informed decisions that will affect the future of our students.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added \u201cthere is also the far concerning issue of safety of our students in this era of sad school shootings. My four core goals for the district are: 1)to increase student academic achievement across the board, 2)analyze & improve college readiness for our high school students, 3)utilize technology to be more proactive with parents and the community, and 4)bridge the academic gap between the under-performing and overachieving students.\u201d<\/p>\n

He thanked his family, his campaign team, and attendees who came to support him. Dearborn.org, BintJebail.com, US Arab Radio, the Yemeni American News were present to cover the event. Food was served from Al-Nawras Restaurant on Wyoming Ave.<\/p>\n

Mozip hopes to land one of the two full-term open seats on the Board of Education. Other candidates are Afaf Ahmad, Khalil El-Saghir, Cyndi Parrelly, Aman Fidama, Roxanne McDonald, Bilal Amen, and Jim Thorpe. Board member Mary Lane is running unopposed for the two-year term seat.<\/p>\n
