Hamtramck Public Schools has reached an agreement to purchase the building formerly known as The Academy of International Studies from Harper Global Enterprises, LLC. This agreement also includes the purchase of the adjacent house at 3060 Hanley and the parking lot across the street. The new name of the school is Hanley Elementary School.
The closing of AIS affords Hamtramck Public Schools the opportunity to better serve the community under the governance of the Hamtramck Board of Education. The Academy provided instruction in grades K through 8 and it is our intent to maintain the current configuration of a K-8 building. We also look forward to maintaining our strong reputation of transparency. Students of the former Academy of International Studies in Hamtramck will be allowed to remain in that building for the upcoming school year.
Thomas Niczay, Hamtramck Public Schools Superintendant, said, “I’m very happy that Hamtramck Public Schools will be able to serve Hamtramck families with a quality learning plan with support from the Wayne County wide network system.”
