Hamtramck Public Schools will be having several updates this year. Abdulmalik Algahaim, President of the Board of Education for Hamtramck Public Schools said this includes HVAC updates, window replacements, and a renovation of the restrooms at Hamtramck High School.

“A few of these projects are scheduled to continue throughout the academic year and into next summer, with careful planning to ensure minimal disruption to students and staff,” he said.

There will also be pool services, HHS elevator upgrades, a boiler replacement, and electrical upgrades. Additionally, there will be new bleacher seats at the HHS Community Center and new tech equipment for HHS computer program.

Besides facility updates, Algahaim said HPS is investing in student enrichment projects this year – a ski trip, college tours and staff development through national conferences.

“These efforts reflect our commitment to safe, modern learning environments and meaningful experiences for every student,” he said.

Algahaim said the Hamtramck Public Schools also plans to reintroduce vocational training and driver’s education programs.

“Additionally, in partnership with Wayne RESA, we’re working to establish a center-based GSRP and a specialized education center to better serve our community’s diverse needs,” he said.

Algahaim said although there are federal funding cuts, the school district is working to meet the needs of students and families.

“Despite ongoing challenges and reductions in federal funding, our focus remains clear: progress, transparency, and unwavering support for our students and families,” he said.
