Hamtramck, Mich. – A free COVID-19 testing site will be coming to Hamtramck this Monday. The site will test for active cases of COVID-19, and people who are symptomatic or asymptomatic – meaning that they are showing no symptoms – will be able to schedule for a free test. People who want to be tested do not need a doctor’s referral or a prescription to get tested.

In order to be tested, you’ll need to schedule an appointment. Appointments can be scheduled by calling the Wayne County Healthy Communities at (313)-871-1926.

The testing site is in the Town Center Parking Lot at 9021 Joseph Campau Street, Hamtramck.

The testing is run by the Wayne County Healthy Communities. According to the City of Hamtramck, this free testing is in order to understand the number of mildly symptomatic or asymptomatic people.

The purpose of these statistics allows government officials to better understand how Wayne County, Michigan and the United States should gradually loosen restrictions. It also provides a better source of data for Public Health Officials to work to understand the spread of the Novel Coronavirus.

“I encourage you to call them and get tested,” said Hamtramck Mayor Karen Majewski. “And once we have more people tested, then we will have a better idea of how widespread this is and how many people may be walking around who are Asymptomatic – who have no idea that they have the virus.”
